McDowell Nature Preserve will be hosting a one-day event on May 27th as part of the National Fishing and Boating Week 2023!
From 10am-2:30pm we will have access to our Red Fox Shelter and surrounding area for anglers to fish for free, no license required. Experienced and new anglers alike will check in with staff at the Red Fox Shelter to participate under our license waiver. No tackle? No problem! Bring your own bait and gear, or simply borrow our poles and tackle on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis. Participants will need a drivers license or ID to borrow our equipment as part of our Tackle Loaner Program.
VOLUNTEERS will be expected to handle angler check in, assigning tackle and gear and helping to fix fishing poles as needed. Staff will be educating about the area and helping anglers get started.
- VOLUNTEER shift is 9:30am to 3:00pm.
- Volunteers should be at least 18 years old to help with this event.
- Dress comfortably for the weather.
- Please bring a bagged lunch as there will not be access to a kitchen during this program.
- Bring sunscreen, bug spray and a full, refillable water bottle.
