Volunteers support and supplement the work of our dedicated Park Maintenance staff by completing projects that may include spreading mulch, trimming limbs, weeding, trail maintenance, painting, litter cleanup, planting/landscaping and other maintenance tasks to enhance the beauty and safety of our Parks, Nature Preserves and Greenways.
*On this date, we welcome Volunteers from the Veterans Bridge Home team and their partners, who will beautify Thompson Park in observance of Vietnam Veterans Day, by helping with various maintenance tasks including a thorough cleanup of the Park and adjacent Greenway, placing flags, etc.
PARKING: Enter Thompson Park at 1129 East 3rd Street, 28204 - circle St. Mary's Chapel to park on the lower end of the parking lot, near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
THANK YOU for choosing to Volunteer with Park & Recreation! Below are a few tips and reminders for a SAFE & PRODUCTIVE Volunteer experience:
- Wear long pants for protection from scratches.
- Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes – REQUIRED, NO sandals or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy.
- Wear heavy-duty work gloves - bring your own gloves for health and safety. Extras will be available.
- Wear a hat and sunscreen for protection from sun exposure; and your preferred bug spray, if needed.
- Face coverings are now optional, especially outdoors, when in the vicinity of other people. Please use your own judgment and respect others' space, understanding that there is still some risk regarding Covid.
- Use a large, refillable water bottle; to stay hydrated, avoid the need to refill, and to protect the environment from single-use plastic bottles. A water cooler for refilling will be available.
