Southview Recreation Center, in partnership with P.O.P. Community Outreach Church, is hosting its annual Back to School Event to help local students begin the school year confident and prepared! This free community event provides families with new backpacks, school supplies, and valuable community resources while supplies last. Families will also enjoy interactive activities and opportunities to connect with local organizations dedicated to supporting youth success.
VOLUNTEERS should dress comfortably in weather-appropriate clothing. Southview Recreation Center or Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation shirts are encouraged if available. Closed-toe shoes are required, and Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
EVENT takes place 12:00-3:00pm - Volunteers may register for one shift or for both:
- Setup and Event Support: 9:30am-12:30pm
- Event Support and Cleanup: 12:00-4:00pm
Volunteer Tasks:
- Assist with event setup, including tables, chairs, decorations, signage, and supply stations.
- Welcome and direct participants upon arrival; assist with registration and check-in.
- Organize, sort, and restock backpacks and school supplies throughout the event.
- Help distribute backpacks and school supplies to families.
- Assist community partners with activity stations and information tables as needed.
- Monitor lines and help maintain an organized flow of participants.
- Assist with children’s activities and family engagement opportunities.
- Help keep the event area clean, safe, and organized.
- Assist with event breakdown and cleanup following the event.
