Opportunities From: Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation

Join Project Captain Richard Bostic to take care of the Park by pulling up and cutting out invasive English Ivy, picking up litter and limbs, and completing whatever other care needed! Bring your own work gloves, pruners and small shovels - extra tools will be provided.

Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes (REQUIRED). Volunteers must be at least 10 years old; anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult/parent.

Sign up today to help keep your favorite park or greenway clean and healthy by picking up litter! A great way to kick off 2026 - spend an hour AT LUNCHTIME by getting outdoors and helping in your community. 

Park and meet at Mallard Creek Recreation Center, at the address listed here - we will focus on the grounds around the Center first and move through the rest of the park as time permits. Look for Park & Recreation signs and staff. 

Below are a few tips and reminders for a SAFE & PRODUCTIVE Volunteer experience:

Wear long pants for protection from scratches - Leggings or light-weight athletic pants are fine. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes – REQUIRED, NO sandals, Crocs or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy. Bring your own heavy-duty work gloves – extras will be available; litter pickers and trash bags are provided. Wear a hat and sunscreen for protection from sun exposure; and your preferred bug spray, if needed. Bring your own water in a refillable water bottle (in a backpack, if possible); to stay hydrated, avoid the need to refill, and to protect the environment from single-use plastic bottles. A water cooler for refilling will be available.
