Volunteer: EXTREME CLEANUP at Albemarle Road Park!Mecklenburg County has been working to make improvements to Albemarle Road Park, that have included the construction of phase 1: trails, a boardwalk, site furnishings, a playground, fitness equipment, a picnic shelter, a basketball court and new signage. The Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners allocated $7 million to the improvement of existing local parks in an effort to improve equity. Albemarle Road Park was one of the ten parks selected to receive this funding. Now that Phase 1 is finished, a grand re-opening is scheduled for early December - and we need VOLUNTEERS to help with an EXTREME CLEANUP to get the Park ready! Volunteers will complete tasks that may include limb and brush cutting and removal, "heavy" trash and debris cleanup, invasive plant removal, mulching, etc. Volunteers are also needed to clean up the grounds around Albemarle Road Recreation Center, which will also serve as our gathering location. PARKING: Use the address listed here for the Recreation Center - 5027 Idlewild Road N, 28227. Park and check in at the front of the Center, then divide into groups to work at the Park (across WT Harris Blvd) and around the Recreation Center. Look for Park & Recreation signs and staff! QUESTIONS? Contact the Volunteer Coordinator at Karen.Howard@MeckNC.gov or call 980-314-1046 (office) or 704-200-7074 (mobile/text).
