Volunteer: SENIOR GAMES Horseshoes & Shuffleboard 2026

We are seeking friendly, upbeat volunteers to assist local older active adults who are participating in the 2026 Mecklenburg Senior Games! Under the guidance of Event Managers, volunteers will be responsible for the following tasks for each event: Set up, welcoming participants, registration, monitoring events, rules enforcement, awards presentations, breakdown and basic clean up. Volunteers must be at least age 12 – anyone under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by a parent/adult.

Familiarity with game rules is appreciated but not required - Park & Recreation staff will instruct all Volunteers!

Volunteer: A WALK IN THE PARK XL for Creek Week! - MLK Jr. Park + Stream + Streets

JOIN US TO CELEBRATE "CREEK WEEK" 2026! Sign up today to help keep your favorite park or greenway clean and healthy by picking up litter! A great way to spend a couple of hours AT LUNCHTIME by getting outdoors and helping in your community.

On this date we will partner with CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG STORM WATER SERVICES to conduct an "extended" cleanup of the Stewart Creek stream; as well as picking up litter around Martin Luther King Jr. Park and along the Greenway. "Keep Charlotte Beautiful" will also be represented, to take a team on the surrounding neighborhood streets! 

Park and meet at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, at the address listed here. After entering the Park, look for Park & Recreation staff and park as directed, between the playground/picnic shelter area and the restroom building. 

Below are a few tips and reminders for a SAFE & PRODUCTIVE Volunteer experience:

Volunteers should plan to bring their own gloves and water supply, and dress appropriately for the weather. Extra gloves will be available; and litter pickers and trash bags are provided.

Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes - REQUIRED, NO sandals, Crocs or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy. If you plan to participate in the STREAM cleanup, some waders will be available - or plan to wear waterproof boots.  Volunteers must be at least 10 years old. Anyone under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult! Age group timed Egg Hunts will begin at dusk, approximately 7pm. We will also have stations for games, inflatables, and crafts throughout the event. 

VOLUNTEERS may help with final set-up for the event by cracking glow sticks and hiding eggs, and/or assist with games or gathering and directing age groups. 

This event takes place outdoors, as well as having activities in the gymnasium and multi-purpose room. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.  Volunteers should be at least 16 years old to help with this event.

Spring forward! Help us get ready for warm season crops to go in!  Just like people - some seeds like it hot, some like it cool, and some are variable. Join the experienced gardeners from Winterfield’s Education Garden and learn more about the timing for sowing seeds and transplants in the Carolina’s Piedmont region. We will be weeding, mulching, and a variety of garden tasks.

We will provide a cooler of cold water. Please bring a refillable water bottle.   Anyone under 18 years old must have a parent/adult with them. Please bring your own work gloves and hand tools/clippers if you have them - We'll have some equipment on hand. Wear long pants, long sleeves; and sturdy, closed-toe shoes are REQUIRED! *Be warned: No restroom facilities at or close to this site.

Volunteer: A WALK IN THE PARK XL at Grayson Park/Naomi Drenan Rec Center - April 28, 2026

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation has been renovating and improving Naomi Drenan Recreation Center as well as completing improvements to the surrounding Grayson Park and Grayson Skatepark. Naomi Drenan Recreation Center is an existing 13,265 square foot recreation center. The Center has a gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, and kitchen. Renovations have included improvements to the building systems, main entry lobby, restrooms/lockers, new multi-purpose room and offices. 

Now that renovations to the Recreation Center are almost complete, a grand re-opening is scheduled for April 30 - and we need VOLUNTEERS to help with an EXTREME CLEANUP to get the Park grounds ready! Volunteers will complete tasks that may include limb and brush cutting and removal, "heavy" trash and debris cleanup, mulching, etc.

We are seeking friendly, upbeat volunteers to assist local older active adults who are participating in the 2026 Mecklenburg Senior Games!
