SPEND THE NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE WITH PARK & RECREATION and STORM WATER SERVICES! Join Environmental Educator Matthew Morgan for a morning of Greenway cleanup: learn a little more about the wildlife that abound in our city, and how we can help protect the environment! Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services staff will also be on hand to lead cleanup efforts in Irwin Creek! We’ll supply litter pickers and trash bags, and waders for working in the stream; you bring work gloves, a water bottle and plenty of ENERGY!
THANK YOU for choosing to Volunteer with Park & Recreation! Below are a few tips and reminders for a SAFE & PRODUCTIVE Volunteer experience:
- Wear long pants and long sleeves, for protection from scratches and/or poison ivy.
- Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes – REQUIRED, NO sandals or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy.
- Wear heavy-duty work gloves – bring your own gloves for health and safety - extras will be available.
- Wear a hat and sunscreen for protection from sun exposure; and your preferred bug spray, if needed.
- Bring your own water in a large, refillable water bottle; to stay hydrated, avoid the need to refill, and to protect the environment from single-use plastic bottles.
- Please DO NOT enter the stream if you choose to work only on the Greenway - you may remove any litter you can SAFELY reach from the stream bank.
*If you would like to help with STREAM CLEANUP, please follow the additional instructions given by Storm Water staff!
Each Volunteer should register individually, to acknowledge the Liability Waiver/Acknowledgement of Risk and Safety Guidelines - READ and click to acknowledge in your response. An adult must Acknowledge for anyone under 18 years old!
