JOIN US TO CELEBRATE "CREEK WEEK" 2026! Sign up today to help keep your favorite park or greenway clean and healthy by picking up litter! A great way to spend a couple of hours AT LUNCHTIME by getting outdoors and helping in your community.
On this date we will partner with CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG STORM WATER SERVICES to conduct an "extended" cleanup of the Stewart Creek stream; as well as picking up litter around Martin Luther King Jr. Park and along the Greenway. "Keep Charlotte Beautiful" will also be represented, to take a team on the surrounding neighborhood streets!
Park and meet at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, at the address listed here. After entering the Park, look for Park & Recreation staff and park as directed, between the playground/picnic shelter area and the restroom building.
Below are a few tips and reminders for a SAFE & PRODUCTIVE Volunteer experience:
Volunteers should plan to bring their own gloves and water supply, and dress appropriately for the weather. Extra gloves will be available; and litter pickers and trash bags are provided.
- Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes - REQUIRED, NO sandals, Crocs or flip-flops. Wear OLDER shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, wet or muddy. If you plan to participate in the STREAM cleanup, some waders will be available - or plan to wear waterproof boots.
- Volunteers must be at least 10 years old. Anyone under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult!
- Each Volunteer must sign up individually in order to acknowledge their review of, and agreement with, the Volunteer Waiver/Photo Release and Safety Guidelines - READ and click to acknowledge in your response. An adult must acknowledge for anyone under the age of 18.
If you have questions, or if you have a group who would like to help on a different day, please contact the Park & Recreation Volunteer Coordinator at Karen.Howard@MeckNC.gov or 980-314-1046 (office).
