Come help with the FUN - it's time for the SUMMER season of BINGO! Programs for Seniors at the Northern Regional Recreation & Senior Center are always a big hit, and we LOVE having Volunteer help! Volunteers should be at least 16 years old - please dress in comfortable clothing (no tank tops, please) and wear closed-toe shoes.

BINGO Volunteers will assist with calling numbers and/or checking winning cards.

We are Bouncing Back to School - Join us for our Back to School Bash! Students Pre-K through 12th grade will have a great time bouncing on inflatables, visiting the tattoo and balloon artists and getting back to school supplies. This is a drop-in event, 10:00am-2:00pm. Southview Recreation Center, in partnership with P.O.P. Community Outreach Church, is hosting its annual Back to School Event to help local students begin the school year confident and prepared! This free community event provides families with new backpacks, school supplies, and valuable community resources while supplies last. Families will also enjoy interactive activities and opportunities to connect with local organizations dedicated to supporting youth success.

VOLUNTEERS should dress comfortably in weather-appropriate clothing. Southview Recreation Center or Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation shirts are encouraged if available. Closed-toe shoes are required, and Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. 

EVENT takes place 12:00-3:00pm - Volunteers may register for one shift or for both:

Setup and Event Support: 9:30am-12:30pmEvent Support and Cleanup: 12:00-4:00pm

Volunteer Tasks:

Assist with event setup, including tables, chairs, decorations, signage, and supply stations. Welcome and direct participants upon arrival; assist with registration and check-in. Organize, sort, and restock backpacks and school supplies throughout the event. Help distribute backpacks and school supplies to families. Assist community partners with activity stations and information tables as needed. Monitor lines and help maintain an organized flow of participants. Volunteers support and supplement the work of our dedicated Park Maintenance staff by completing projects that may include spreading mulch, trimming limbs, weeding, painting, litter cleanup, planting/landscaping and other maintenance tasks to enhance the beauty and safety of our Parks, Nature Preserves and Greenways.

*On this date, Central Carolinas Master Naturalists and the North Carolina Wildlife Stewards Charlotte Chapter return to lead a second volunteer workday at the Veteran's Park Pollinator Pitstop, located just down from the Carolina Panthers Fitness Court. We will continue to remove Bermuda grass and other weeds from the pollinator garden along with a few other projects. Please bring your favorite pair of gardening gloves and, if you have one, your favorite weeding tool - some tools may be available. 

PARKING: Enter Veterans Park at 2136 Central Avenue, 28205 - continue straight into the parking lot and park wherever there is space. The project will take place *across* the park, not far from the fitness area - look for signage and workers. Overflow parking may be available along McClintock Road.

It's Eastway Regional Recreation Center's BOUNCE Back to School Jam, and we are going big! This event will include over 20 bounce houses of all kinds, face painting, balloon artists, crafts, Italian Ice, music and more. There will be a backpack giveaway for all registered children.

Celebrate the end of summer with a Soul Train-inspired block party featuring a live DJ playing classic R&B and Motown music, dancing, games, fellowship and a delicious meal served from a food truck! 

Volunteers are needed to help with setup/decoration, event operations and cleanup for this FUN event for Seniors, at Eastway Regional Recreation Center! Volunteers may help with setup of tables/chairs and decorations; signing in guests, serving food, etc.; tear-down and cleanup after the event.

This exciting program is offered through Park & Recreation's Therapeutic & Inclusive Recreation Section, in partnership with the Carolina Panthers. The CFF league gives participants ages 7-12 (Junior League) and 13 and up (Senior League), with a disability, the opportunity to improve sportsmanship, experience teamwork, and enjoy football!
*This is an 8-week program - we are looking for energetic Volunteers who can attend every week!

The season runs from September 9 through October 31, with practices on Wednesdays (5:30-6:30pm) and games on Saturdays (9am-12:00). In addition, Volunteers are welcome to assist with our Jersey Reveal and Kickoff events, and the Jamboree - dates to be determined.  

Volunteers will assist with leading football drills and skills as well as coach teams and encourage and assist players on the field as needed. Wear athletic clothing and closed-toe shoes; hats are OK!

*You must be at least 18 years old to help with Adaptive Sports programs - all Coaches/CFF Volunteers must have a current application/background check on file. Contact VolunteerServices@MeckNC.gov if you need to apply or check your status.

The Community Hoops Classic is a high-energy 3v3 adult basketball tournament hosted at Camp Greene Park in Charlotte. Bringing together competition, community, and culture, the event will feature some of the area’s top players competing in a fast-paced outdoor tournament atmosphere. The Community Hoops Classic is designed to create a fun, competitive, and community-driven environment that celebrates basketball culture in Charlotte while providing an exciting experience for both players and spectators alike.

The tournament includes three divisions:

Men’s Division (Ages 18–29) Women’s Division (Ages 18–29) Corporate Division (Open gender and ages)

Games tip off on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 9:00 AM and will continue throughout the day as teams compete for championship bragging rights. In addition to the on-court action, attendees can enjoy music, local food vendors, community partners, giveaways, and more throughout the event.

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help with various tasks throughout the day - you may register for either shift or for both! Volunteers must be at least 18 years old for this event. We need Volunteers to assist with:

Celebrate all things nocturnal during McDowell Nature Center's 17th Annual NATURE AT NIGHT FESTIVAL! This fun-filled, educational event shines a spotlight on what nature has to offer after the sun goes down! The evening includes live animals, crafts, night hikes, wagon rides, s’mores, interactive booths and much more! Food Trucks will be on site for meals to purchase separately. This event is rain or shine. Please dress in layers to be outdoors during Fall weather. Goodie bags, snacks and water will be provided for all Volunteers. PLEASE CHOOSE 1 SHIFT ONLY WHEN SIGNING UP!

Day/Setup shift – 10AM-2PM: Set up of tables/chairs, tents, exhibits, etc.

Evening/Event shift – 3PM-9PM: Assist Park & Recreation/Nature Center staff with live animal stations, crafts, games, information tables, wagon ride, hikes, etc.

Volunteers must be at least age 16 for this event. TEAMS registering must enter all Volunteers' names and email addresses!

Halloween is around the corner, and it's time to have some fun! Our annual Halloween dance is a time for participants ages 13 and up, with a disability, to dance, socialize with their friends, and have a "howling" good time! 

Wear your best costume to the HOWL-O-WEEN dance! Volunteers will assist with the dance by monitoring the dance floor, socializing with participants, and helping with clean up. The dance is from 6pm to 8pm - Volunteers arrive at 5:30pm to check in and receive instructions. 

Dress: Halloween costume or a Halloween-themed shirt with comfortable pants and closed-toe shoes. 

*You must be at least 18 years old to Volunteer with this program.
