Volunteer: SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - Storm Drain Marking - May 13

Gain service hours towards a club, school requirement, or to boost a college application while practicing stewardship! This single-day service opportunity program is geared towards middle-high school aged students looking to get involved in their community and environment, but absolutely open to all!

Storm Drain Marking involves walking and/or driving to a secondary location and gluing a small placard to the storm drains in the area. During Storm Drain Marking, we will be using an app called Quick Capture to log the drains we mark.​ Volunteers will meet the Nature Educator at Stevens Creek Nature Center to gather supplies. Transportation to the marking site (5 min drive) will be provided, or you can elect to drive yourself after meeting at the nature center.

Come by Hickory Grove Recreation Center to help with our Mini-Learn to Ride Event! We will offer 2 sessions: 10:00am-10:45am and 1:00-11:45am. Learn to Ride is made possible in partnership with Bicycle Sport and Trips for Kids Charlotte, with support from Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Mecklenburg County Public Health, and well-run media + marketing.

Volunteers will help with setting up for the event, be trained on how to teach bike riding, instruct bike riding/bike safety lessons, and break down/clean up after the program. Help is needed from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

Volunteer: TRASH TRACKERS at Irwin Creek Greenway/Arbor Glen - June 29, 2026

Join us on Mondays to explore a different location each month while you connect with people and nature, while making a positive difference in Mecklenburg County's green spaces by removing litter! Volunteers will be equipped with litter pick-up sticks and/or gloves. Be aware that trash will be located off trail over uneven and muddy ground. We may walk a cumulative 1-2 miles over uneven terrains. Anyone under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by a parent/ adult. Pre-registration is required, no walk-ups will be accepted!

Wear long pants and sleeves; closed-toe shoes are required! Dress appropriately for the weather; and bring a water bottle and snacks.

Project Captain Dylan McCready gathers energetic Volunteers on one Saturday each month at 9616 Radner Lane, Charlotte, 28277, to trim trees and weeds; pick up trash; and clear branches and debris from the Four Mile Creek Greenway path.

Volunteers must be at least age 12. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/adult.
